Lilium has officially opened what it calls Europe’s first high-volume production facility for eVTOL aircraft—a 175,000 square-foot site in Wessling, Germany. Designed to scale production of the company’s Lilium Jet, the plant positions Lilium as a serious contender in the race for commercial deployment.
This isn’t a proof-of-concept workshop or a retrofitted warehouse. It’s a vertically integrated aerospace facility, capable of producing up to 400 aircraft per year. The building includes final assembly lines, structural assembly areas, and integrated testing for propulsion and avionics. In other words: it’s not just big, it’s real.
Why It Matters
Industrial Readiness: Lilium isn’t waiting to build a factory after certification. They’re building now—to be ready when the green light comes.
European Leadership: With EASA certification expected before FAA, Lilium may be the first eVTOL cleared for full-scale operation on a continent.
Design Differentiator: Lilium’s ducted fan design is unlike anything else flying today—optimised for speed, distance, and cabin quietness over urban density.
At Hollocraft, we’re watching moves like this closely. A bold factory opening sends a message to investors, regulators, and partners alike: We’re not just testing—we’re building.
And building at scale.
